Mental health is a vital component of an athlete’s overall well-being and performance. In the high-pressure environment of elite sport, athletes often face unique psychological challenges—ranging from stress, anxiety, and burnout to post-competition lows and identity struggles.
The IWF Athletes’ Commission recognizes the importance of raising awareness, reducing stigma, and promoting open dialogue around mental health. By ensuring access to mental health support services, educational resources, and safe spaces for conversation, we can create a more balanced and resilient environment where athletes are empowered to seek help when needed—without fear of judgment.
Supporting mental health is not only a matter of care—it’s a key pillar in safeguarding athletes and sustaining the integrity of our sport.
We aim to encourage our athletes and the IWF organisation to participate in UN World mental health day 10th October every year
IWF Athletes’ Mental Health Awareness (IAM-HA)
(IAM-HA) – An initiative to open dialogue on mental health issues within the sport of weightlifting. Through IAM-HA, the IWF Athletes’ Commission is committed to creating a supportive space where mental well-being is prioritized, discussed openly, and treated with care. ( Athletes share video’s on how they manage stress, depression and mental issues with their fellow athletes)
As part of this initiative, we also celebrate the lighter side of weightlifting — sharing funny, cheerful, and heartwarming moments from past competitions that remind us of the joy, camaraderie, and human connection that unite our global weightlifting family.
